white chocolate
Research shows that chocolate has
a weak stimulant effect due to the
content of theobromine, but in
such small amounts per serving
that it wouldnt even amount to the
buzz from a good cup of coffee.
Only small amounts of caffeine are
found in chocolate, 5 to 10
milligrams in a one ounce piece of
bittersweet chocolate, 5 in milk
chocolate and only 10 in a cup of
cocoa. In other words it would
require the consumption of over 12
chocolate bars to get the caffeine
in one cup of coffee! Chocolate
was described by pharmacologist
Ryan J. Huxtable as "more than a
food but less than a drug".
Chocolate has been banned in horse
racing because it is a very potent
stimulant to horses.
